Student materials for pick up

Dear Bolinas-Stinson School Families and Community,

I hope you are all doing well and embracing the extra time with your family. I always try to look for the silver lining in difficult situations, and one positive aspect of social distancing is spending more time with family. I would love to hear what your family’s silver lining is. Please email me your thoughts on this, and how you are trying to make the best out of this challenging situation.

As we all become accustomed to the “new normal” of the shelter in place order, it is critically important for parents to explain to their children the role that they play in controlling the spread of the virus. Many of us hear about or see older students gathering together in spite of the recommended social distancing. Please make time to talk to your older child(ren) and explain how they may become an unknowing carrier of the virus, and unintentionally perpetuate the spread of it to others who are more at risk. Everyone’s cooperation with the shelter in place is essential.

UPDATES AND SCHOOL NEWS

BSUSD Office Hours During the Shelter in Place

Due to the shelter in place order, the Bolinas-Stinson School office will not be open to the public. We will be here from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM Tuesday, March 24th -Thursday March 26th, for parents to pick up devices. We ask that parents not enter the office space for health reasons. We will deliver the device and sign-out sheet to you on the porch. We will still be checking messages and fielding calls and will respond as needed. Thank you for your understanding.

Free School Lunches Available for All Children 18 and Under

Please let us know if you would like a school lunch for your child(ren) who are 18 and under, during the shelter in place. We will provide a free lunch of a sandwich, fruit, and milk for all local families who need this service. We need prior notice in order to make enough lunches for families to pick up. Please call or TEXT 415-450-7324 or email Kara Perras at karap@bolinas-stinson.org with the number of lunches you will need for your children.

Teacher Pages Now Live on the BSUSD Website & Online Resources

Teachers have been in communication with families and have updated their classroom webpages or shared information about at-home learning via email. The new teacher pages can be found in the Menu on our BSUSD Website or you may use this direct link to access: Teacher Pages. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to teachers or myself if you have any questions or specific needs for your family.

We’re now using IXL, the online learning platform, to support at-home learning for our kindergarten through eighth grade students. Teachers will be sharing with families how to access this new resource this week. IXL is an online program that is designed to improve student understanding, performance, and confidence in math and English language arts. They create differentiated learning environments that generate questions at the right level of rigor for every student and continue to adapt with students as they grow. Teachers are able to track student growth and recommend activities to further student progress.

Also available to parents on the BSUSD website are links to the following online student resources. These are great fun and I hope you check them out!

Classrooms Loaning out Devices for Student Use

Please reach out to your child’s teacher if you need to borrow a device. Teachers will be gathering the student devices as needed and placing them in the office for pick up. Parents may pick up the devices from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, on Tuesday, March 24th through Thursday, March 26th. We ask that parents not enter the office space for health reasons. We will hand the device and sign-out sheet to you on the porch. Thanks!

Free Internet Access at School for Families

We realize the importance of having internet access during the shelter in place order, and would like to offer free access to our school internet. Our internet network name is Mobile Lab, and the password is 4158681603. We realize that our signal doesn’t travel far beyond the buildings, but it is accessible in the parking lot. We apologize that we are not able to open our doors to provide more comfortable access at this time. Please observe all health and safety recommendations when you are on school grounds. Much appreciated!

Please don’t hesitate to call me if you have any questions or concerns regarding your child or our school. Thank you for your continued support and kindness.

Be well and stay positive,

Michelle Stephens
