PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE,

Dear Bolinas-Stinson School Families and Community,

I am pleased to welcome Kelly Onorato as our new PE Specialist! Kelly has a wealth of sports knowledge and many years of experience coaching soccer and other sports. She knows many of our students through her coaching and is a long-time member of the Bolinas community. If you know Kelly, you know how passionate she is about working with kids and motivating them to try their best. The kids have been enthusiastic and love having “Soccer Kelly” as their new PE specialist!

UPDATES AND SCHOOL NEWS

Report card update

You may have noticed that your child’s report card did not come home at the end of the first trimester.  We have been reviewing and updating our BSUSD standards based report card to better reflect core standards as well as to make them more useful to parents. This important process is taking a bit longer than we had expected. I apologize for the delay and look forward to sharing the updated report card with you soon.

Interim music program for the remainder of the 2019-20 school year

Due to unexpected scheduling conflicts, Irena Eide is unable to continue as our interim music specialist. Thank you Irena for your passion and great work with our students. We wish you the best in your musical endeavours!

Going forward, grade levels PreK-6 will continue to receive Spanish instruction one day a week. In addition, homeroom teachers will coordinate one session of individualized weekly music, performing arts, or other enrichment for their students. Homeroom teachers will be able to reach out to parents, local artists, and community members to provide more individualized enrichment for their students. Teachers will be able to better integrate the enrichrichment time with their curriculum and include student voice and choice in the decision. Grades 7-8 will continue with their Spanish program two days a week. We will be talking more about this at the Parent Coffee Chat next week, I hope to see you there!

The Board of Trustees will be reviewing the above interim music program at the board meeting on Tuesday, December 10th at 4:00 PM. The board will also be discussing our enrichment programs as part of our BSUSD Strategic Plan and reviewing/establishing long term goals for our students.

Aeries parent portal coming very soon!

The Bolinas-Stinson School has been using the Aeries Student Information System (SIS), to track student enrollment and attendance for many years. In an effort to streamline student data and parent communication, we look forward to using more of its many helpful features including: parent access to attendance records, report cards, state assessment results, and important contact information.

Soon, parents will have access to a secure Aeries parent portal account using their email address that is on file with the school. This secure portal will allow parents to view their child’s confidential school records.  Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or concerns with our ongoing efforts to improve home/school communication and better support our families.

PLEASE JOIN US FOR THESE UPCOMING IMPORTANT EVENTS!

Annual Stinson Campus Sing-along, Tuesday, December 17th, 6:30-7:45 PM

I hope you will come out for our annual Stinson Campus Sing-Along on Tuesday, December 17th, from 6:30-7:45 PM. This fun Stinson Campus tradition is a time to come together and enjoy some winter cheer with friends and family. The evening will start with a light dinner of soup and time to chat with friends, old and new.  Be sure you bring a large mug (or bowl) and a spoon for each person in your family.

Please let your child’s teacher know if you are able to contribute a pot of soup or loaf of bread and butter. Don’t worry if you’re not able to, this time around...just come prepared with your mugs and spoons! Victoria and Omar will lead the group through fun songs for the whole family. The evening will wrap-up with a song outside under the stars (weather permitting), so bring a warm coat!

Warmly,

Michelle Stephens
