Please take the US Census! West Marin has one of the lowest response rates in the region and without your participation, schools and other government agencies risk losing funding. It's also important for ensuring that California is represented fairly in Washington DC. Here is a link: https://2020census.gov Thanks!

Last week the Bolinas-Stinson School District distributed hot spots to students who do not have reliable internet access. As predicted, there are some challenges in places where the signal is not strong. Getting every student on line with a reliable connection and a working device continues to be our goal and we are very close to achieving it. After our initial hot spot distribution last week, we will work with families on a case- by -case basis to make sure that every student can access remote learning reliably. If you or a student you know is having difficulty connecting, please call or TEXT 415-450-7324. Thanks so much for your perseverance and patience during this time. The sacrifices you are making are having a real impact on slowing the pandemic making our community safer.

Dear School Community: I hope you are handling the on-going shelter-in-place with resolve and good humor. I am sure many of you are seeing news reports and/or have read the letter issued by State Superintendent Thurmond's office which was echoed by Governor Newsom today. Their message is that it appears our students will not be able to return to the classroom this year. It may be wise to keep that possibility in mind, however, there has been no definitive direction from the Governor's office or from Public Heath indicating an extension of our current school closures at this time. We will continue distance learning through at least May 1 and longer if necessary. We continue to work with Marin Health Department around issues of public safety and school closure. Should we receive definitive information on an extension of our current school closure we will communicate it immediately. Thank you for your ongoing patience as we work through the shelter-in-place and all that comes with it. John Carroll, Superintendent
Dear Bolinas-Stinson and Lagunitas School Communities: In an effort to support the state-wide shelter-in-place order and to do our part in slowing the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic, we are asking school staff not to come to school until further notice. Employees who are essential to providing food service and sanitation will be allowed on campus for short periods of time to complete essential tasks. Families receiving lunch at school should use the regular pick-up location and not remain longer than necessary. Thanks again to all members of our community for working together in this effort to protect public health and the safety of others. We will provide another update after the county-wide conference call tomorrow morning. Please stay safe and remember to be kind and patient with each other. John Carroll, Superintendent

School Closure update: Both Lagunitas and Bolinas-Stinson Schools are anticipated to remain closes to students through at least April 7 in accordance with the shelter-in-place order. Thank you for your patience. Please watch this space for updates.
MESSAGE TO SCHOOL EMPLOYEES: As per the shelter-in-place order, please do not come to school beginning on Tuesday, 3/17. There is an exception for employees who have been pre-authorized to perform essential services. Thank You.
FROM BOLINAS-STINSON SCHOOL: Order to shelter in place from the department of public health: Please see this link: https://coronavirus.marinhhs.org
FROM BOLINAS-STINSON SCHOOL: Dear Bolinas-Stinson School Families: This afternoon Health Officers in the Greater Bay Area are issuing a Shelter-In-Place directive. The School District will provide more details as they become known. As of now, the Department of Public Health advises that you should stay at home and leave only to access essential services. Essential services that will remain available are as follows: • Healthcare • Schools (Though classes are cancelled some services may continue.) • grocery stores • other places providing fresh food • pharmacies • gas stations • banks • garbage service, • plumbers • electricians • laundry mats • restaurants, but deliver or carry out only The most important element of this directive is to limit contact with others so as to decrease the rate of spread of the COVID-19 virus. Social distancing including keeping at least 6 feet away from others is strongly advised as is continued frequent hand washing. If you become ill, call your healthcare provider for specific guidance. While this guidance is important for everyone, compliance is critical for people age 65 and up and for those who care for them directly. Solitary outdoor activities are acceptable, for example dog walking, hikes alone or with small groups when individuals stay 6 feet apart. Remember, this is a nation-wide effort and each of us can help by following the directions of our Public Health leaders. Please watch this space for further update including information pertaining to school employees. Thank You. John Carroll, Superintendent
Dear Employees of the Bolinas-Stinson and Lagunitas School Districts: On behalf of our administration teams, I want to thank you all for the flexibility and commitment you have shown so far as our schools deal with the COVID-19 pandemic. It is heartening to see people being community-minded when we face new challenges. At a time like this, teamwork and taking care of each other is our best path to getting back to normal. I am aware that there is some anxiety as we head into this week. My hope is that this message will reassure all of you that while we are at an unprecedented place in our history, we will get through this together and will learn and grow from the experience. • Do not worry about your pay and benefits. Our plan is process payroll as though school is running normally. We will not deduct any sick leave during this time. • On Monday, March 16: Our campuses will be closed. Please do not come to work unless you have authorization from me or your site principal. • From Tuesday March 17- Friday March 27: Classes have been cancelled but school is not technically “closed”. That means that employees who would like to work from campus (without students present) may come to school. Employees may also elect to work from home. DO NOT COME TO SCHOOL IF YOU FEEL ILL. • If you choose to come to school at any time in the next two weeks: E-mail, text or sign in in person with the District Secretary: Bolinas-Stinson: firstname.lastname@example.org Lagunitas: email@example.com Be sure to give Johanna or Liz the following information: 1. The date you will be on campus. 2. Where you went while you were there. 3. What kind or work you did (a brief description… lesson planning, feeding class pets etc.) 4. What time you left. We have taken the step of cancelling classes not because we suspect the presence of COVID -19 at school. The class cancellation is in response to a recommendation from Public Health to limit concentrations of student to support regional efforts to slow the spread of the virus. Our sanitation efforts are being implemented out of an abundance of caution. If you have individual questions or concerns, please e-mail me at firstname.lastname@example.org or call me directly on my personal number: (415) 720-0051. Thanks again for all you do for our students. John Carroll, Superintendent

FROM BOLINAS-STINSON SCHOOL DISTRICT: We have confirmed that nearly every Marin school will open tomorrow. Thanks to all for your patience and understanding during this challenging and frustrating time.
FROM BOLINAS-STINSON SCHOOL DISTRICT: We notified by PG&E that power in the school district will remain on for the foreseeable future. School will re-open tomorrow, Thursday, October 31.
FROM BOLINAS-STINSON SCHOOL DISTRICT: CORRECTION: School is closed today, WEDNESDAY and may re-open tomorrow, Thursday, October 31.
FROM BOLINAS-STINSON SCHOOL DISTRICT: School Closure Update: Schools across Marin including Bolinas-Stinson and Lagunitas will remain closed today, Thursday October 30. An early morning conference call with PG&E and Marin OES let us know that most of Marin still does not have power. Additional shutdowns may occur today in places (like Bolinas) where power has been restored: The Kincaid Fire in Sonoma County may threaten power lines that would force additional shutdowns throughout Marin. We are hopeful that we will be able to re-open school on Thursday and will post updates throughout the day today. Again, thanks for your patience and please stay safe.
FROM BOLINAS-STINSON SCHOOL DISTRICT: School will be closed tomorrow, Tuesday October 29 and Wednesday October 30. At 4:20 PM today we were notified by PG&E that another public safety power shutdown (PSPS) will take effect early Tuesday morning. All Marin Schools will be closed for safety reasons.
FROM BOLINAS-STINSON SCHOOL: We are waiting for more information from OES regarding power restoration. A conference call is scheduled for 4:00 PM today.
FROM BOLINAS-STINSON SCHOOL DISTRICT: Bolinas-Stinson School will be closed tomorrow, Monday October 28. New developments in the region with planned power outages, wild fires and compromised phone communications have made it such that opening school as we had planned would not be safe. Many school staff members live in areas that are being affected by outages and fires making it difficult for us to staff the school. Our phone communication has also been impacted to the point where safety would be substantially compromised. Principal Michelle Stephens and I have been in regular communication over the weekend and after updates from the Office of Emergency Services, we both agree that it will be safer for students and staff to remain at home tomorrow. We will continue to post updates as conditions change.
The Bolinas-Stinson School will be open on Monday, October 28th, even if we do not have power. We have checked with emergency services, our facilities team, and staff to ensure that students will be safe and will have adequate conditions for learning. If you need to reach the school when the power is out, please call 415-868-9406. We will have normal Monday AM & PM bus runs. The lunch menu may be different then what is posted due to the outage. We will evaluate the situation on a day-to-day basis and John and I will keep you updated on any changes in status. Hope you have a wonderful weekend and see you all Monday morning with or without power!
FROM BOLINAS-STINSON SCHOOL DISTRICT: The Office of Emergency Services has notified us that Bolinas-Stinson School and the surrounding region is likely to experience a Public Safety Power Shutdown (PSPS) due to the risk of wild fires that could be caused by high winds. Our most recent information indicates that a high number of customers all over Marin and the Bay Area will have their power shut off beginning some time Saturday October 26 and lasting for an indefinite period of time- probably through Monday October 27. It is very likely that school will be closed for safety reasons on Monday and perhaps into next week. If power is off Monday morning, school will be closed. We will send out notifications via the website, app, text message and e-mail by 5:30AM on Monday morning with a final decision about the school closure and will update the website regularly as we learn more. Please prepare for this event by ensuring that you have sufficient food and water for an extended period of time, keeping a battery-operated radio available and charging your mobile phone in advance. KCBS 740 AM Radio will also provide updates if cell service is impacted. We know that events like this are a major inconvenience for our families and employees and we regret having to make this decision. Thank you so much for your patience.
FROM BOLINAS-STINSON SCHOOL:School is open today. Updates on power outages, air quality and fire conditions indicate that school can open as usual. Please watch this space for updates.
FROM BOLINAS-STINSON SCHOOL: There is an active fire near Slide Ranch/ Muir Beach. Stinson Beach Fire Department and the Marin County Sheriff have directed us to evacuate the Stinson Beach Campus. Students and staff will be bused to the Bolinas campus. Parents can pick up their children at the Bolinas campus or wait for the regularly scheduled bus run at the end of the day.
Today - All School Assembly, Wednesday, October 23th, 8:25 AM, Bolinas Campus Quesada. This week our 5th graders will host our school assembly. We will continue to learn about our staff as they participate in The “True or False” game. 5th graders have also been working with teachers, Willow and Sara, to create a short skit. I will be announcing the winners of the Tour to Learn Map Challenge - See you there!
FROM BOLINAS-STINSON SCHOOL: PG&E via Marin County Office of Education has informed us that the Bolinas-Stinson School community is very unlikely to be effected by planned power outages in the region. We expect the power to remain on and for school to remain open.

Special Free Live-stream Event! Wednesday, October 16th, 7:00-8:30 PM, Bolinas Campus Library. David and Nic Sheff will be speaking about their newest book, High: Everything You Want to Know About Drugs, Alcohol, and Addiction. Their book provides reliable information on drugs, alcohol, and addiction so teens and parents can make educated decisions. Due to overwhelming interest and a sold-out venue at Angelico Hall in San Rafael, we will be live-streaming this event for our school community along with Marin Healthy Youth Partnerships.
